The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
